A historic moment in South Asia as @ambayaalubythema becomes the first hotel in Sri Lanka to be entirely female run! Sri Lanka’s tourism industry contributes greatly to its economy yet cultural norms and social stigma have held back women’s participation in the industry over the years. While this may not be noticeable in the city, the conservative culture in rural areas meant that young women who are keen have been discouraged from joining the industry. The Amba Yalu hotel in Kandalama has taken the first step in creating a space where these young women can finally break the shackles of their society and take a leap towards achieving their dream!
